CALIVERT
………………………………………

Join me in celebrating Northern Summers with this sumptuously striped sideways steekathon.

A simple vertically-striped top at first glance, Calivert is brimming with hidden nuance. Knitted in the round, it is then flipped on its side, steeked at the neckline and hem, and finished with ribbed edgings.

In addition to creating vertical stripes, this unusual process allows the knitter a fine degree of control over sizing, neckline depth, sleeve width, and shoulder shaping than traditional construction methods.

A fun way to combine your favourite colours, or to use up small amounts of leftover yarns, Calivert (an anagram of ‘vertical’) offers a fresh perspective on sideways construction, and a thorough introduction to steeking!

This garment is worked in the round, sideways, from left to right in a single piece, with shaped shoulders and neckline. After completion, the hem and neckline are steeked and finished with ribbed edgings. The sides are assembled up to the underarms, leaving armholes which are then likewise finished with ribbed edgings.
