This pattern is especially designed for beginners in brioche stitch … and for all knitters who want to showcase their wool without getting into something too complicated! A few hours are enough to knit this little sweetness available for both children and adults (7 sizes for head sizes from 41 to 60,5 cm / 16 to 24”).

This hat takes its name from the little sweets from Aix-en-Provence which are among my favourites with their combination of the sweetness of the marzipan with the melon and the crunchiness of the icing. There is a bit of an opposition between the folded jersey border and the body of the brioche hat, but also between the two patterns that are drawn with the syncopated brioche.

Knitted in the round from the bottom to the top, this hat presents very few technical difficulties: a provisional binding off for the brim (but a version with a rolled brim is included), two-coloured brioche in the round and a three-needle folding. A small stitch at the end to form the top, a small pom-pom (templates are included) and that’s it!

Skills: Two-coloured brioche knitting, three-needle bind-off, provisionnal cast-on for the folded brim.

Stocking Stitch, knitted in the round: 26 stitches x 35 rounds
Brioche, knitted in the round: 22 stitches x 27.5 rounds.

120 [180, 220, 250] [260, 280, 320] m / 132 [197, 241, 273] [285, 306, 350] yds of (heavy) fingering yarn (380 to 437 m for 100 g) with :
75 [110, 130, 140] [145, 165, 170] m / 82 [120, 142, 153] [159, 181, 186] yds in the Main Colour (MC)
45 [70, 90, 110] [115, 115, 150] m / 49 [77, 98, 120] [126, 126, 165] yds in the Contrasting Colour (CC).

Sample hat is worked in Le Chat qui Tricote Doucette (80% merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon – 400 m / 465 yds & 100 g per skein), col. Bonton de rose (pink, MC) and Café Crème (beige, CC).

Circular needle, double-pointed needles, or your preferred needles to work in the round:

Ce patron est pensé tout spécialement pour les débutants en point brioche … et pour tous les tricoteurs qui veulent mettre en avant leur laines sans se lancer dans quelque chose de trop compliqué ! Quelques heures suffisent pour tricoter cette petite douceur disponible autant pour les petits que les grands (7 tailles pour des tours de tête de 41 à 60,5 cm / 16 à 24”).

Ce bonnet tire son nom des petites douceurs d’Aix-en-Provence qui font partie de mes préférées avec leur alliance de la douceur de la pâte d’amande au melon et du craquant du glaçage. On retrouve un peu cette opposition entre le bord replié en jersey et le corps du bonnet en brioche mais également entre les deux motifs qui se dessinent avec la brioche syncopée.

Tricoté en rond du bas vers le haut, ce bonnet ne présente que très peu de difficultés techniques : un montage provisoire pour le bord (mais une version au bord roulotté est incluse), de la brioche bicolore en rond et un rabattage à trois aiguilles. Un petit point à la fin pour former le haut, un petit pompon (des gabarits sont inclus) et le tour est joué !
