After naming designs for lots of other places in Great Britain, we’re back in the East End of London proper with Cable Street, the site of a stand off between residents and police to prevent Oswald Mosley’s Fascist Blackshirts marching in 1936 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Cable_Street. Londoners are justly proud of this event as it helped change the way provocative marches were organised.

Enough history and onto the knitting. Our Cable Street is a snug and warm collar to slip over your coat in the depths of Winter. Yet again we’ve used the fabulous Artesano Aran, which (yet again) the lovely people at Artesano sent to us for free.

The cable panel is easier than it looks, add in a couple of lovely buttons and you’ll be super-smart for Winter. Our buttons are approximately 3.5cm(1½“) diameter.

Actual amount used: 160g/212m/230yds, including 10% for ‘wastage’ and rounded up to the nearest g/m/yd.

Tension: central cable panel of 24 sts and 12 rows measures 9cm(3½“) wide and 5.5cm(2¼”) deep.
