And there’s nothing stopping you from trying other simple stitch patterns, like garter sttich, other rib stitch variations or even reverse stockinette stitch. But be sure to use a good quality yarn--the better the yarn, the better the finish. The pattern calls for a merino wool, but alpaca or cashmere are also perfect for this project. For a more casual or rustic environment, you could try a tweedy linen or string. A group of cushions in different stitches but the same yarn and color would look good on a bed, or in different yarn textures on a couch. Sew on beautifully simple natural mother of pearl buttons in ivory or charcoal to add the perfect finish. Or, hunt for wonderful individual buttons in secondhand shops or flea markets.
