When my friend Carrie requested some dog-walking mitts to match a hat I made her, she mentioned that she sometimes needed her fingers. I made this mitt as a compromise between fingerless mitts and full mittens. Cute and fancy, but also practical.

Yarn: 85(90) yd 77.7(82) m worsted to aran weight wool of main color (mc), contrasting color (cc) – 50(55) yd 45.7(50.3) m worsted to aran weight wool

Gauge: 5 sts/in. 2.5 cm in mc and 4.5-4.75 sts/in 2.5 cm in cc

Needles: Size 7 and/or 8 US 4.5-5 mm double-pointed needles or whatever size you need to get gauge. Depending upon the yarns chosen, the gauge may require that you change needle sizes at the color transitions.

Sizes: medium 7.5 in. 19.1 cm around (large 8 in. 20.3 cm around). To make a smaller size, work in smaller needles or use a lighter weight yarn. You also may want to make 1 stitch button holes for the right hand mitt top and a 2 stitch button hole for the left.
