Butterfly Ornament or applique
This pattern uses some advanced stitches (FoundationSingleCrochet stitch, TrebleCrochet, DoubleTrebleCrochet, TripleTrebleCrochet), and there are links to some great instructional videos to help. I also include numerous photos to help sort out any possible confusion as to where stitches are placed.
The business cards I use for Cara’s Handcrafted Crocheted Ornaments have a lovely purple butterfly logo on them which I wished to recreate in crochet. These fun little pieces would look great hanging in a window as a suncatcher ornament, or dangling from a mobile or a windchime. Butterfly can also be used as an applique to dress up a plain t-shirt or sweatshirt. The pattern can be made with multiple sizes of crochet thread or even yarn for different sizes, and there is an optional ‘ruffly edge’ variation given to experiment with. Try these in solid colors and in the lovely variegated color-changing threads.
