The gauge isn’t that important, as everyone’s camera is different. What I’m giving you is a really easy outline, with diagrams, for how to make a very quick and easy camera case. Also, it takes WAY less than one skein to make this project. I barely put a dent in the skein of Simply Soft I used.

This case was designed and created on the bus ride from Boston to NYC in July of 2007. I was going to see my friend for his birthday and I brought my camera as it was my first trip to New York City. On the way down I realized that I’m a complete klutz and that I should have brought my camera case down, and since I didn’t, I’d better make one.

This case was born. It was so cheap and easy to make, but I get a surprising number of compliments on it.

A note about the photos: one is of the shape you should have just before you start working in rows instead of rounds. The photo with the brown “closure” is just to show the back, not the “closure”. It turned out that on vacation that string was not only unattractive, but it was also inconvenient and unnecessary. The camera stays in the case really well, and you don’t need a closure at all.

Of course, another option is to add a flap at the top of the hole and a button, snap or hook and eye. I was on a bus and had none of these things with me at the time, hence no closure.
