Burl Scarf
Double-drafted woolen-spun exotic yak yarn provides wonderful character for this scarf, also giving it a rustic charm not necessarily available with smoother wools. A refined cable surrounded by seed-stitch makes it attractive for both men and women to wear.
When I purchased my wheel, my sweetie bought 4 oz of yak top at the shop, and requested I spin and knit him a scarf from it. This is the result. It is a rustic scarf made from learning yarn, which I knit because yarn doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful, and is most beautiful when it’s also being useful.
The thick and thin character of the yarn is well complemented by the slow repeat of the ribbed cable and the knobby moss stitch. The fuzziness that’s inherent in yak and brought out further by the woolen spinning fills in the thin spots with fluffiness and warmth.
The pattern is fully reversible, with the same motifs appearing on both sides. Once completed it’s not possible to know which is the front face and which the reverse. It knits quickly
