Burgoo
Simple, satisfying garter stripes accented with a slip-stitch colourwork band make for a warm and eminently squishable blanket, perfect for curling up with a good book or (of course) another knitting project. It seems only fitting to name this blanket for the spicy, comforting, many-ingredient stew that is a staple of fundraisers and social gatherings here in the American south.
Burgoo is worked from side to side, so your stitch gauge affects the length and your row gauge affects the width. To make this blanket, you need to know how to knit, slip stitches, and carry colours up the side (though there are tips on that). Pattern instructions are written, with the mosaic colourwork band both charted and written. Pattern includes tips for adjusting the size of your blanket.

About the yarn: Brooklyn Tweed Shelter is a woolen-spun worsted weight yarn that blocks into a spongy, woolly, cohesive fabric. The woolen-style spinning creates a warm, lofty yarn with good memory and great yardage for the weight. As woolen-spun yarns contain a lot of air, the fabric tends to dry quickly, too, which is helpful
in a project of this size. Garter stripes work well in a variety of yarns, though, and hand washing blankets isn’t for everyone, so if you are using a different yarn for this project, look for a yarn with a good range of colours that gives you a fabric you like at gauge, fits your budget, and can be cared for in a way that is practical for you.
