Bunny Ponytail Hat
Who does not love a hat with ears? This is so much fun to put on, and so easy to make. It knits up quickly using mostly stockinette stitch, but feels special because of the ears (of course) and because buttons up the back allow your little bunny to stick her ponytail out whether she like to wear the ponytail high, low, or in the middle. Maybe it should be called a bunnytail hat!
Sizing: Instructions are given for two sizes: smaller child, approximately 1-3 years old (finished size 17”, for head circumference up to 18.5”), and larger child, approximately 4-8 years old (finished size approx. 18.5”, for head circumference up to 20”).
Difficulty: Beginner
Skills: knit, purl, k2tog. Small amount of sewing to attach ears to hat and buttons to button band.
This hat is worked flat in one piece. Row-by-row instructions are easy to follow. This is a great project for a beginner, using primarily stockinette stitch, and makes a fun gift.
Yarn selection: The hat calls for aran-weight yarn (gauge on yarn label should say 18 sts to 4”/ 10 cm). You will need 100 - 130 yards of the main color and about 10 - 20 yards for ear linings (contrast color). This hat looks sweet in white or pastels, but is really fun when knitted in a fun variegated yarn or bright colors, too.
