Gather a colorful collection of DK weight yarns to knit the various textures. You can knit each section as long as you want for a personalized collage of stripes. The striped sections include garter stitch, knit ‘n slide, brioche, and garter ridges staggered between stockinette/reverse stockinette sections. Choose between three sizes to knit a baby blanket, a cozy throw, or go all the way with a large colorful blanket.

Sizes
S (M, L). Length is customizable. Sample shown in Large size.
The Small size is appropriate for a baby blanket or small blanket for the couch.
The Medium size creates a snuggly living room throw. It’s also big enough for a single bed.
The Large size is ultra cozy and big enough for a double bed.

Finished Measurements
Approximately 33 (50, 66)“ / 84 (127, 168)cm wide, 85” / 216cm long from CO to BO edge. Length is customizable.

Yarn
DK weight

I used mostly DK weight yarns for my Building Blocks Blanket. I included a few worsted weight yarns that didn’t feel too heavy so they mix nicely with DK. Most of my yarns are hand dyed superwash merino bases. Most superwash yarns create a very drapey fabric. I prefer to add non-superwash wools to my palette like Brooklyn Tweed SHELTER and squishy cormo wool yarns that add loft and body to the fabric. Mixing superwash with non-superwash yarns add more subtle texture to the fabric and it doesn’t stretch as much as an entirely superwash wool fabric.

For a DK weight gauge try holding multiple strands together. Here some yarn ideas…
2 strands fingering weight
1 strand sport weight + 1 strand lace weight mohair/silk
1 strand fingering weight + 2 strands lace weight mohair/silk

Needles
47” US 7 / 4.5mm circular needle
The fabric is knit flat, but circular needles are required for the brioche and knit ‘n slide stitch patterns.

Notions
14 (22, 30) stitch markers, tapestry needle

Gauge
18 sts & 38 rows = 4” / 10cm in garter stitch

I recommend aiming for a fabric density similar to a sweater fabric. Not too loose and not too tight. If you’re substituting yarn weight for this project and using mostly worsted weight yarn I would use a US 8 / 5mm. For aran/heavy worsted weight, I would use a US 9 / 5.5mm
