Building a Reef
Coral reefs are fragile and beautiful, much like shawls actually. But while coral reefs are most prominent in tempered waters, I think I can use shawls in all climates. This pattern is a perfect way of bringing a bit of coral beauty to your everyday life.
Building a Reef is a triangle shawl with an 11-stitch lace panel instead of a single center stitch. The pattern includes cables, therefore a cable needle is also required. The pattern is charted, wrong side rows are a combination of knits and purls.
Coral shawl used 1 skein Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in Grapefruit 100% Merino, 420 yd/ 384 m per 100g on 3.5 mm (US 4) needles.
Blocked size is 104 x 51 cm (41 x 20 inches). Gauge: 18 stitches = 10 cm in polyps pattern.
Red shawl used 2 skeins Malabrigo Arroyo in Jupiter 100% Merino, 335 yd/ 306 m per 100g on 5.0 mm (US 8) needles.
Blocked size is 165 x 73 cm (65 x 29 inches). Gauge: 16 stitches = 10 cm in polyps pattern.
