Buddling
This pattern is also available for purchase via PayHip or LoveCrafts.
Delicate lace motifs combine in a simple but elegant baby blanket. Modular design and construction means that you can customise the finished piece to your required specifications. Originally designed for DK weight yarn, alternative yarn weights could be substituted if desired (see notes under Materials below).
Sample shown uses Cascade Yarns Cherub DK, in the following colourways: Baby Pink (04), Baby Mint (05), Baby Lavender (07), Ecru (09), Turquoise (12) and Smokey Lavender (29).
Materials
810 yds / 740 m DK weight yarn: each square uses approx. 45 yds / 42 m. Sample shown uses 6 shades. Alternative yarn weights could be substituted, required yardage / finished dimensions would vary.
4 mm / US 6 DPNs and/or circular needle (see notes)
4 mm / US 6 circular needle (min. length 40 “ / 100 cm)
Stitch markers (4)
Tapestry needle
Optional
Waste yarn (if using three needle bind-off method)
5mm / H crochet hook
Size
As shown, the 4x4 blanket measures approx. 24 “ / 60 cm square.
Pattern can be customised to required size and shape, by adding or rearranging completed squares.
Gauge
22 sts = 4” in lace motif once blocked
Notes
Needles
The pattern is written for DPNs in the first instance. However, circular needles may be used for all, or part, of the pattern; the length of the needle will vary depending on your preferred method of using circular needles:
- DPNs only: 5 required, min. length needs to be 6-8 “ / 15-18 cm. Work the cast on over 2 needles, using a third to knit; transfer evenly over 4 needles, using fifth to knit, on rnd 5.
- DPNs + Circular needle: min. length needs to be 12-16 “ / 30-40 cm (for magic loop/circular needles: min. length needs to be approx. 32 “ / 80 cm). Start in same manner as the DPN only option, transfer to circular needle on rnd 21
- Magic Loop: min. length needs to be approx. 32 “ / 80 cm. Cast on over 2 needles, and work using normal magic loop technique.
Arrangement & Customisation
The sample shown here uses the pictured arrangement for the blanket (see image at bottom of page).
Due to the modular nature of the blanket, the finished shape (square, rectangle, etc.) and size can be customised easily. Additional squares can be added for a larger size; each block adds 6” / 15 cm to the finished size. This would require additional yarn (approx. 45 yds / 42 m per square plus extra for edging and seaming).
Seaming / Joining Options
There are two methods included in the pattern for joining the squares together once complete. These require different finishing methods, see full instructions for further information.
