Budding Star
This pattern is available for preorder at the special price of $5 (discount automatically applied at checkout). You will receive the full pattern on June 30th (NZ time).
Budding Star gets its name from its little buds of stitches which are created by Estonian-like clustered increases.
This pattern features multiple sizes and degrees of slouch - so you can tailor this hat to provide the fit that’s just right for you.
The lace instructions are provided both in chart and written form.
In addition there are tutorials to explain the more unusual elements of the stitch pattern
Materials
- 1 skein of Vintage Purls Superstar (70% N.Z. Polwarth, 20% Tussah Silk, 10% N.Z. Black Merino; 380 metres / 415 yards per 100g skein).
- 3.25mm, 40cm circular needle or size that gives you gauge. You will also require double-point needles, or a long circular (for Magic Loop) to work the crown of hat.
- 2.75mm, 40cm circular needle for ribbing. If you need to use a different size needle to get gauge on the body of the hat, make this needle two sizes smaller than that needle.
- A stitch marker.
Gauge
Unblocked: One lace repeat is 2.5cm (1”) wide and 5cm (2”) tall.
Blocked: One lace repeat is 3cm (1 1⁄4”) wide and 6.5cm (2 1⁄2”) tall.
Your hat will grow with blocking, take this into consideration as you work, an unblocked hat that fits like a beanie will become slouchy with blocking.
The darker model is a Size 2 beanie. It used 43g of yarn.
The lighter model is a Size 2 slightly slouchy version. It used 50g of yarn.
This pattern was designed for supply drop three of The Lightfinger Gang 2017.
