It is not critical. Choose any yarn weight and an appropriate hook size. Instead of working to a stitch gauge, continue crocheting until the crown measures the correct diameter for your size.

This top-down design for a soft, lightweight, brushed mohair beanie is perfectly on trend for winter. It works up quickly in aran/worsted weight mohair but you can also double strand a lighter weight mohair.

The pattern is worked to a measured crown diameter, the body length is also worked to fit, not to row count. This makes the pattern size flexible and yarn tolerant.

So gauge is not critical for this pattern, instead of working to a stitch gauge the pattern guides you to crochet until you reach a certain amount in cm/inches according to your size.

The pattern includes written instructions and multiple video tutorials of the various stitches and techniques involved so you can’t go wrong and you don’t need to look elsewhere for explanations; top tips for working with mohair, colour changing guidance and helpful blocking and finishing tips.
