The “BROWNIE” hat - a yummy birthday hat!

This chocolate cake hat, complete with a cherry and “whipped cream” on top, makes a great First Birthday photo prop.
The hat is knit in the round and the “whipped cream” topper is knit separately and sewn on.
The “cherry” is done using crochet

THE BASICS

• Pattern includes 6 sizes: Newborn / 3-6 months / 6-12 months / Toddler / Child / Adult

• Pattern is written in ENGLISH and uses standard U.S. knitting terms

• Instructions are for knitting in the round on circular and double pointed needles

• Gauge: 20 stitches = 4 inches (10 cm)

• Knitting skill level - INTERMEDIATE

• The “cherry” is done with crochet

• Knitting in the round

• Basic increases and decreases

• Chain, and single crochet stitches

SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED

• Approx. 90 to 180 yds (82 to 165 m) DK or light-worsted weight yarn depending on size made

• U.S. size 6 (4 mm) 12” (for 3 smallest sizes) or 16” circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge

• U.S. size 6 (4 mm) double pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge

• Crochet hook U.S. size E (3.5 mm)

• Stitch marker

• Yarn needle
