Brioche Heart Hat
After playing around with increases and decreases I noted that you could make brioche hearts, and I fell immediately in love with it! I made 5 different hats, and still I was not pleased with the result. Finally, I mixed the brioche stitch with garter stitch and came up with this design! I am so pleased that I did, because I love the result, and it is also amazing inside out! I hope you will enjoy!
Yarn: Shown samples is knitted with Easy Care Classic (Mayflower) 50g (1.76 ounces)/105m (115 yards), MC=Pink (086) CC=Forrest Green (089) and MC=Red (114) CC= Raw White (116). You can use any other DK weight yarn.
Needles: 3.0 mm/US 2.5 for the ribbing and 3.5 mm/US 4 for the pattern 40 cm/16’’ circular needles + double pointed needles or long circular needles for Magic Loop during the shaping of the top
Gauge: 19 st x 22 rounds in 10x10 cm brioche stitch with 3.5 mm/US 4 needles
Yarn used: Less than 50g of each colour (I used 40g of each colour for M version – 80g total)
Finished size: All sizes 24 cm height. In gauge you will have around 8,5cm/section. Circumference S: 34 cm (M): 42,5 cm L: 51 cm. (Note the stretchiness of brioche, the size increases 50% with stretching!). S is a tight version for children. M is a looser version for children, or tighter version for adults. Make L if you want a loosely fitted hat.
Other tools: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends, stitch marker
This pattern includes both written and chart instructions. It also includes a photo tutorial for the brioche stitches, helping you new ones to brioche knitting. If you already are familiar with brioche knitting, you only need to print out the first 7 pages.
Enjoy!
