Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Summer 2006:

Brioche is one of Katy Ryan’s favorite stitches. She loves the plush texture and strong lines of the dimensional ribbed pattern. In this sleeveless, V-necked top, she uses double decreases to shape the neckline and armhole at the same time. The decreases, placed several stitches away from the neckline, tilt the rib lines away from the center allowing them to follow and frame the neckline. The shoelace structure of the yarn adds even more dimension to the textured stitch, and the rich, chestnut-brown color is a welcome change from summer’s paler shades.

Finished Size: 30 (38, 43½, 48½, 51½)“ chest/bust circumference, unstretched.

Yarn: Colinette Wigwam (100% cotton; 142 yd 130 m/100 g): #115 velvet bronze, 4 skeins. Yarn distributed by Unique Kolours.

Needles: Size 11 (8 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Removable marker (m); stitch holder; tapestry needle.

Notes:

• When counting stitches, count the slipped stitch and yarnover as one stitch. When counting rows, count 1 knitted stitch (a V) as 2 rows.
• All shaping is worked on wrong side rows.
• When binding off, work a k1, p1 rib, working the yarnover and slipped stitch unit as k1, and the next stitch as p1.
• At side edges, armhole edge, and neck edge: Slip the first stitch knitwise on each row and knit the last stitch.
