We have all had a hard time with COVID-19, but our frontline workers have struggled with over run hospitals, being short staffed, and seeing so many people die from this terrible virus all alone. All the while, they showed up every day; some traveling across the country to help us stay alive!

I designed this motif originally as socks and made a pair for my best friend, who works at the CDC. She was always there for me to turn to when I had questions or just felt overwhelmed with the pandemic. I wanted to make her something that showed her how much I appreciated all of her hard work!

When I released the pattern, I was touched by so many who made the socks for their loved ones. There were some people who told me they wanted to make the pattern, but they weren’t ready for socks. I converted this motif into a cowl design so that everyone could make this pattern for their loved ones.

The design consists of ECG rhythms and hearts. From top down, the first rhythm is ventricular fibrillation. In this heart rhythm, the heart is fighting to keep the body alive. The heart is barely pumping blood but it keeps trying. The next line is the flat line. The heart has stopped beating. It is followed by the heart design. The love that brings us back to a normal ECG rhythm, back to life.

Designers notes:
This is a bottom up design with instructions for both fingering weight yarn and worsted weight yarn.

Sizes: For both the fingering weight and the worsted weight yarn, there are 2 finished circ.: 24” (61 cm), 32” (81 cm).
The fingering weight cowl length is 10” (25 cm). The worsted weight cowl length is 11” (28 cm).

Materials
Fingering weight cowl:
• 1 skein of Knit Picks, Muse Hand Painted sock and 1 skein of Bare Muse sock - 75% Superwash Wool and 25% Nylon, or any similar fingering weight yarn.
• US 2, 2.75 mm, 24”, 60 cm, cable length
Worsted weight cowl:
• 1, 2 skeins of Knit Picks, Wool of the Andes worsted MC, and 2, 3 skeins of Wool of the Andes worsted CC- 100% Peruvian Highland Wool, or any similar worsted weight yarn.
• US 8, 5.5 mm, 24”, 60 cm, cable length
Note: Adjust your needle size as necessary to obtain gauge

• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Fingering weight: 32 sts x 40 rounds= 4” x 4” / 10 x 10 cm
