Bricks
Play with color and texture in Bricks. You’ll need three skeins of fingering weight yarn. Start with your favorite variegated colorway, then pick 2 solids/semi-solids that match colors in the variegated, but will stripe with each other, not blend.
The prototype did not use complete 400-yard skeins, but depending on your knitting style, you may want to allocate whole skeins so you don’t run out of yarn before you run out of pattern.
Approximate yardages based on the prototype:
MC: 375 yards
CC1: 225 yards
CC2: 250 yards
Tools needed:
- Size US4 (3.5 mm) needle, 40” length recommended
- cable needle
- tapestry needle to weave in ends
- stitch markers
- sense of adventure
Bricks uses fade-style color play, cables, German short rows and textured stitch patterns to create a unique shawl meant to celebrate physical (brick and mortar) local yarn stores. Grab a few knitting buddies and head to your LYS to get started!
Prototype and test knits were worked with:
- Three Irish Girls Adorn Luxe in The Yarn Stops Here (MC), Cascade Heritage Solids in Butter (CC1) and Strawberry Creme (CC2)
- Three Irish Girls Adorn Luxe in Everlasting Gobstopper (MC), Dancing Queen (CC1) and Cosmos (CC2)
- The Yarns of Rhichard Devrieze Thede in Epic Trek (MC), Urth Harvest Fingering in Black (CC1), and Knit One Crochet Too Elfin Tweed in Caramel (CC2)
Huge thanks to SharisYarnBasket and B3thMill3r for being my test knitting guinea pigs!
