Brazeau is a pair of fingerless hand warmers featuring a meandering cable, and just a touch of lace. They were named after the Brazeau River in Alberta, a major tributary of the North Saskatchewan. The Brazeau River is the boundary for Clearwater County, which is home to a flock of North Country Cheviot sheep – the source wool for this pattern.

Knit from the fingers down, this pattern was designed to be easily adjustable, and includes multiple suggestions for making a pair that are just right for you.

This is a Hand Spun/Hand Knit pattern. In this download you’ll not only receive the knitting pattern, but also the spinning recipe and dyeing recipe for all you handspinners out there.

While this pattern was created with handspinners in mind, it also works equally well with commercial yarn, and there are a few commercial suggestions included in the pattern.

Sizes:
S/M (to fit): 6.5 - 7.5” (16.5 - 19 cm) palm
M/L (to fit): 7.75 - 8.75” (19.5 - 22 cm) palm

The photo shows the small size modeled on a 7.5” palm.

Techniques Used:

  • Knitting in the round
  • Reading charts
  • Simple lace
  • Simple cables

A note about yardage: As this is a pattern made for handspun, the yardage reflected is the minimum amount required to complete the pattern. 90 yds for the S/M and 110 yds for the M/L reflects the total yardage to complete a pair that look like the ones reflected in the pattern photo. There are multiple ways to adjust the pattern included in the PDF so that you can customize your hand warmers to fit your yardage.
