Boukoleon Shawl
The hidden architecture of the Byzantine Palace that lies under Istanbul’s Sultanahmet inspires the curved structure of circular and bricklike stitches in this asymmetrical shawl, worked in 3 progressive tonal stripe shades plus 2 neutrals.
Materials: Urth 16 Fingering, one 50g skein each, shown in MC1 (BR20 oatmeal), MC2 (N50 charcoal), CC1 (P20 burgundy), CC2 (P30 mauve), CC3 (P90 lilac)
Size: 78”/198 cm wingspan, 43”/109 cm finished edge, 21”/53 cm depth, unblocked
Needles: US8/5mm,80=100cm length to accommodate the final 240 sts
Notions: Tapestry needle, markers as needed
Gauge: 24 sts x 50 rows = 4”/10cm in Linen Stitch. Gauge is not crucial for size, but is for yarn consumption.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Techniques: Slip stitch, yarnovers, shaping using increases, I-cords.
