Bookworm
Bookworm is available now as part of the Stitching in the Stacks ebook at Cooperative Press, which is also available as a hardcopy.
Bookworm is bookish. He is perfectly at home tucked away on a high shelf reading bodice rippers, or hanging out on the Childrens Reference Desk sharing Goodnight Moon with the pre-schoolers.
Bookworm is knit in the round with bits of worsted yarn (almost any kind will do). His shaping is accomplished with strategically placed increases & decreases, plus a few short rows in the “chest” area. The arms & hands are I-cord with picots for fingers, and like the eyeballs, can be knit on picked up stitches or knit separately and sewn on. His page-turner is comprised of simple garter stitch rectangles with a few stockinette rows in the middle for the spine bend. Using worsted weight wool yarn & 3.25 mm needles, his finished measurements are about 7 inches long & 3 inches tall, but he can be easily be made huge & huggable or tiny & adorable by substituting different yarn weights & needle sizes.
