Bold is a comfy cropped sweater featuring a big, 18-stitch cable, with fun texture detail on the extra-long sleeves. It is knit top-down, stockinette-side out, on large needles. Weave ends in carefully, and it becomes a completely reversible garment.

Skills Needed: Cable cast-on, working in the round, cabling, knitting through the back loop, kfb and left-lifted increases, k2tog, ssk, and p2tog decreases.

Fits Sizes: 32 (36, 40, 44, 50) in. 81 (92, 102, 112, 127) cm at bust. If you are in between sizes, look at the actual measurements below to see which size would fit you best.

Actual Measurement: 34.25 (38.25, 42.25, 48.25, 52.25) in. 87 (97, 107, 123, 133) cm at bust.

Yarn: 5 (5, 5, 7, 7) skeins Tahki Donegal Tweed (Aran; 100% New Wool; 183 yds/100g). If substituting yarns, 800 (850, 875, 1,150, 1,225) yds 735 (780, 800, 1,055, 1,125) meters Aran weight yarn.

Needles:

  • US size 9 5.5 mm - 16 in. 40 cm circular needle
  • US size 9 5.5 mm - 24 in. 60 cm, 32 in. 80 cm, 40 in. 100 cm, or 47 in. 120 cm circular needle (use needle smaller than circumference of sweater)
  • US size 9 5.5 mm DPNs (or needles for your preferred style of small circumference knitting)
  • US size 8 5 mm for edging– 24 in. 60 cm, 32 in. 80 cm, 40 in. 100 cm, or 47 in. 120 cm circular needle (use needle smaller than circumference of sweater)
  • US size 8 5 mm DPNs for sleeve cuffs (or needles for your preferred style of small circumference knitting)
  • Or use needle size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 16 sts and 19 rnds = 4” 10 cm in stockinette stitch on size 9 needles, after blocking.

Other Materials: 1 stitch marker for beginning of round, 4 additional stitch markers, cable needle, tapestry needle, waste yarn.
