To knit during Advent is a peaceful and creative activity that spreads warmth and thoughtfulness during the festive time leading up to Christmas. It gives us a chance to pause, reflect, and prepare, while the needles follow their rhythmic melody.
I find it particularly special to knit from my yarn advent calendar on the same day I’ve opened todays yarn door. Watching colour after colour come together in a way not personally chosen adds a new dimension to the knitting experience.

YARN
This cowl pattern is designed for use with advent calendar yarn, personally selected yarns, or leftover yarns in 7 (9) 11 mini skeins, where each mini skein weighs 10 (15) 15 grams and has a yardage of 350-420 meters per 100g. Of course, it is also possible to knit with a single colour.
The sample pieces knitted during the test knitting used a total of 320 (400) 440 meters for each size.

SIZES
A (B) C
The cowl is designed to fit loosely round the neck.
Cowl circumference: 60 (67) 67 cm
Cowl depth: 30 (38) 45 cm

GAUGE
24 sts and 30 rnds = 10x10 cm in stocking stitch and pattern after blocking
I recommend to knit a swatch to make sure your gauge is correct. Otherwise, your cowl may have different measurements and can use up more yarn than defined in this pattern.
Needle size I used for my sample was 4.0mm. Note that I am a tight knitter so you may need to go down a needle size to obtain gauge.

ABOUT THE PATTERN
The cowl is knitted in the round as a tube with stripes in alternating stockinette (garter stitch) and a textured pattern. The smallest size is perfect to wear as a protective layer close to the neck under a jacket or coat.
The two larger sizes have the same circumference but different heights. The smallest size of the collar knits up fairly quickly and becomes a lovely accessory. The largest size provides more warmth and drapes elegantly around the neck.
The pattern includes both written instructions and charts.
