Bobailín (’BobaLEEN’, the Irish for tassel) is a two-coloured shawl featuring slipped stitch ribbed cables worked over a striped garter stitch background. The pattern is worked in two colours, beginning with just a few stitches, and increasing the stitch count as you work garter stitch stripes. Ribbed cable motifs are introduced as the pattern is worked. Only one colour is worked per row, and the cable stitches are slipped when working contrast colour rows. The pattern is ended with garter stitch stripes, and finished off with two fabulous tassels.
The pattern includes charted and written instructions for the cable motifs. The pattern purchase also includes a separate photo tutorial for making the tassels.

In case you were wondering, the pattern takes its name from the phrase (and song lyric) ‘Scaoil Amach on bobailín’. Direct translation is ‘let out the tassels’, but it is generally used to mean ‘cut loose & have fun’. Whether wholesome fun or otherwise is up to the wearer’s discretion.
