Blood will have Blood
“It will have blood, they say. Blood will have blood.
Stones have been known to move, and trees to speak.
Augurs and understood relations have
By magot pies and choughs and rooks brought forth
The secret’st man of blood.—What is the night?”
After the banquet, after Banquo’s ghost appears, Macbeth realizes how deeply embroiled in revenge and murder he is, and his casual attitude toward his own evil begins to show itself. This sock works best with a solid-color, the fine cable work at the top echoing either a dagger point or dripping blood, the foot pattern a pool of blood.
Skill Level: Advanced, due to cable work & sock construction
Materials: 360-420 yds (330-385m) of sock yarn. The socks pictured are a size Large and used 400 yds of Wollmeise Twin, in the colorway Herzblut
Needles: US1(2.25mm) sock needles. The pattern is written for DPNs, but magic loop knitters can easily adapt using stitch markers to note needle positions.
~Note on Needle size: Only one size of needle is necessary, but due to the intense cabling, testers found that going up to a 2.5mm needle helped with elasticity.
Tools: Cable needle, if necessary, tape measure, scissors, and tapestry needle.
Sizing: Small (Medium, Large, Extra-Large) socks measure 8(9,10,11) inches or 20.5(23,25.5,28)cm. Because of the cable work at the top of the leg, I recommend starting with a larger size and working P2tog decreases after the cables to reach the desired circumference.
Gauge: 8 stitches and 12 rounds per inch or 2.5 cm
