The name of this design comes from my favourite beach on Cape Breton Island, where I grew up. I chose the linen stitch for this in particular as I wanted to create something that represented the rocks in the sand at the beach. Not the white sandy beach most love, rather a sandy but rugged Canadian beach that’s a favourite among many islanders!

This soft, warm hat is great for winter. With a doubled band and stranded colourwork creating a thick fabric for the body of the hat, it’s guaranteed to keep you warm in the winter months.

The pattern is very flexible in regards to size and who will be wearing it. A change of colour for a man or woman, pompom or without, adding or removing a few rows to get the right amount of slouch, you can create the perfect hat for your needs.

NOTE (December 12, 2016) There was a mistake in the decrease section of this pattern, which has been corrected in the PDF.

Row 1 of the decrease setup section should read:

k10 in pattern, 3stdec, (k20 in pattern, 3stdec) 4 times, k10 in pattern to end. (105 sts)

The abbreviation for the decrase method is 3stdec and not dec3.
