This little bird is actually based on birds motifs found on early American coverlets. It can be a blue bird or a red bird or any color of bird you’d like! Putting them together like this reminds me of seeing the migrating birds in the spring and fall of each year sitting on the utility wires in the back yard.

Gauge over pattern after blocking:
Cap - using US #2.5 (3.0mm) needles: 30 sts = 4”/10cm in pattern; Tam - using US #3 (3.25mm) needles: 32 sts = 4”/10cm in pattern.

Yarn: Fingering weight.
Approximately 142 yards/130 m of background color and 63 yards/58 m for birds.
