After receiving several requests for matching mittens tor my Big Stitch Beanie, I am happy to oblige! Are you as obsessed with knitting as I am? Then you need this pattern series! While to uninitiated this pattern may seem just chevrons, every fellow knitter will be in the know. Big Stitch Mittens like their sister hat and cowl patterns are worked in colorwork that is, in essence, big loops of stockinette. Colorwork here is simple enough to have a beginner knitter moving along with confidence. It is also captivating for the mind of an advanced knitter, who would be going for “just one more row” to see the picture appear in their hands.
Skill level: advanced beginner to intermediate
Finished dimensions: One size, to fit most women’s hands.
Suggested Yarn: fingering weight yarn, total of 2 oz/50 g or 250 yd/ 230 m, Color A and Color B. I used 2 skeins of Jamieson&Smith 2-ply jumper weight Shetland wool, one skein of Dark Cream (Color A) and one skein of Green (Color B)., but if you are not a fan of playing yarn chicken, I would advise having an extra skein of color A handy.
Needles: size US 3 (3.25 mm) and size US 5 (3.75 mm) double pointed needles, or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 13 st and 15 rows = 2 inches in colorwork.
