As you may know, I live in an old pub in the northern German countryside, built in 1906, remod- eled in the late 1980s. It’s beautiful and I really love it, but the house is quite big (big enough to hold knitting events and classes!), so we only turn on the heating in the rooms we actually use – plus the wood stove, of course. When I am sitting at my desk, I usually wear three layers of wool plus some- thing cozy around my neck, and this big and beautiful cowl out of a soft and eco-conscious Aran- weight yarn is my new favorite: The reversible cables spiral elegantly around it, so it’s a little wider at the shoulders and narrower around your neck. Up or down, inside or out: just big and beautiful!

Seit knapp fünf Jahren lebe ich in einem alten Gasthof in Schleswig-Holstein, gebaut 1906, reno- viert in den späten 80ern. Es ist wunderschön hier, und ich liebe dieses Haus, aber es ist so groß (ausreichend für zünftige Stricktreffen!), dass wir immer nur die Räume heizen können, die wir auch benutzen. Der Holzofen tut sein bestes, und doch sitze ich im Winter mit drei Lagen Wolle an mei- nem Schreibtisch, und etwas Kuscheliges um den Hals muss auch sein. Dieser große, schöne Cowl aus einem tier- und umweltfreundlichen Garn ist mein neuer Liebling: Die Zöpfe sehen von beiden Seiten schön aus und winden sich spiralig rundherum, so dass an den Schultern etwas mehr Weite entsteht als am Hals. Ob hoch- oder umgeschlagen, ob innen oder außen: Einfach groß, kuschelig und schön – Big & Beautiful!
