If there is anything kids love more than pockets, it’s stuffing things into their pockets – heavy, pointed things that can stretch out and poke through knitted fabric before you ever have a chance to object. This cheery scarf is designed with that kid in mind. The scarf has pockets at both ends, each reinforced with a plastic CD sleeve for a lining.

Even if a marker with no cap makes its way into these pockets, the yarn will never feel the insult. If your child prefers jamming their hands into the pockets as substitute mittens, simply omit the plastic sleeves. The thick fabric created by the stranded knitting of the snowflake gives the pocket ample reinforcement.

Materials:

1 skein each of Berroco Vintage in #5157/Paprika (MC) and #5112/Minty (CC)

US #6/4 mm 24 inch circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
US #6/4 mm double-pointed needles
US #4/3.5 mm 24 inch circular needle

2 plastic CD sleeves
waste yarn or stitch holder

Errata (applies just to the Petite Purls version of the pattern; the PDF on Ravelry is correct):

There is an error in the second chart (for the scarf portion). On WS rows (rows 2 & 4) all sts that are not slipped should be knit, NOT purled.

In other words, on the RS, you need to:

^k3, move yarn to front of work, sl 1, move yarn to back of work, rep from ^ to last 3 sts, k3.

On the WS, you need to:

k1, ^move yarn to front of work, sl 1, move yarn to back of work, k3, rep from ^ to last 2 sts, move yarn to front of work, sl 1, move yarn to back of work, k1.
