Bernard the Teddy Bear
Classic amigurumi teddy bear, 4-way jointed using plastic doll joints (or buttons and thread), with moving arms and legs.
SIZE
20 cm (8”) from head to toe, when crocheted with DK weight cotton yarn and a 2.50 mm crochet hook. And 25 cm (10”), when crocheted with fuzzy baby yarn and a 2.75 mm crochet hook.
DIFFICULTY
3: intermediate – includes some more complicated crochet techniques, small details, and simple shaping.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Crocheting in spiral.
- Chain, slip and single crochet stitch.
- Increasing and decreasing.
MATERIALS
- DK / light worsted / # 3 / sport weight yarn. I used Rico ‘Ricorumi DK’, a DK weight 100% cotton yarn, 58 m (63 yd) per 25 g (0.88 oz). You will need about 50 g of brown (066 clay) and 2 g of white yarn (002 cream).
- 2.50 - 3.00 mm crochet hook (US size 2/C - 3/D).
- Polyester fiberfill, wool, etc. for stuffing.
- 9 mm (3/8”) safety eyes or buttons, beads, felt, etc.
- Two 20 mm (4/5”) and two 16 mm (3/5”) plastic doll joints or safety eyes, or buttons.
- Dark brown cotton embroidery floss.
- Yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker.
For the fuzzy version, you will need
- Alize ‘Softy’ - 68 g of beige (#310) and 3 g of white yarn (#62).
- 2.75 - 3.50 mm crochet hook (US size 2/C - 4/E).
- Polyester fiberfill, wool, etc. for stuffing.
- 10 mm (2/5”) safety eyes or buttons, beads, felt, etc.
- Two 20 mm (4/5”) and two 16 mm (3/5”) plastic doll joints or safety eyes, or buttons.
- Dark brown cotton embroidery floss.
- Yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker.
