Beloved Rose Bag
Please check this Shuttermonkey Designs Discussion Thread to find out the latest discounts and/or promotions currently running on my designs.
This is a small, felted handbag worked in three pieces: the front, the back, and the base and sides together. The front of the bag requires knitting using the intarsia method and also a little Swiss darning and chain stitching. Once sewn together this bag needs to be put through a washing machine to achieve the felted effect.
Instructions for this bag are provided in both written and charted format.
Materials List A lot of people believe that hand knitted bags are very expensive to knit, so I’ve put together a list of the materials that I used to show you just how inexpensive making your own Beloved Rose Bag can be. Yarn: £10 (5x Drops Nepal) Handles: £10.50 (36cm Black Leather Handles bought on ebay from craftizen) Lining: £6 (30cm Mackintosh Rose Fabric bought from Mandors) Pattern:£3.50
The rose motif on this bag was inspired by the work of Scottish architect and designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Mackintosh was born in Glasgow in 1868 and through the development of his own style he designed some of the most beautiful buildings Glasgow has to offer, which include The Glasgow School of Art, Mrs Cranston’s Tea Rooms, Scotland Street School and Queen’s Cross Church.
He was well known for his floral-inspired decorative motifs and it is from these that I have taken my inspiration for the design on this bag. I was also encouraged by The Yarn Cake in Glasgow and their knitwear design competition, The Glasgow School of Yarn!
This design helped me win 1st place in the competition.
