Errata: I have received much appreciated feedback that pointed out an error in my pattern. “Bella Sera” was my first-ever pattern and I’m very grateful to those of you who have taken the time to write me and give me feedback on it. I have corrected the problem and the updated pattern is available on my website: Bella Sera Shrug

If you have downloaded this pattern before June 5, 2009, but have not yet knit the shrug, please take the time to download the new version and use this instead. Thanks very much!

Alternatively, if you have already printed the the original version of the pattern and would like to use this, the correction that was made can be viewed here: Bella Sera Shrug errata

Bella Sera means “beautiful evening” in Italian, the language of my previous country of residence. I picture one wearing this little mini shrug on precisely such an evening, thrown over a strappy top or perhaps a dress for a bit of extra warmth on a cool summer night.

This shrug only takes 2-3 100g. balls of a heavy worsted weight yarn and is a very quick knit, with minimal shaping and a fitted shape through the natural stretchiness of knitted fabric. It is knit from the top down with raglan increases and has a neckline and bottom hem decorated with rows of yarn-over eyelets. A wide ribbon is threaded through these eyelets and used to tie the shrug in front. If you prefer to use wool instead of cotton, you could also consider lengthening the sleeves for a more fall- or winter-time look.
