In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, two other wizarding schools, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, arrive at Hogwarts to participate in the Triwizard Tournament. Hailing from France, the Beauxbatons students make a glamorous entrance in their matching French blue silk uniforms. Designed by costume designer Jany Temime, who herself attended French boarding school as a child, the Beauxbatons costume features French blue silk capelets, heels, and perky trilby-esque hats, none of which are ideal for the cold Scottish weather at Hogwarts. But they certainly stand out against the sea of Hogwarts blacks, grays, and browns.

Make your own (warmer!) version of the Beauxbatons capelet with this lovely pattern. Beginning with a provisional cast on and knit from the top down, the charming capelet grows out with increases placed at intervals and is topped off with an attached i-cord edging around the bottom edge and sides. The fiber content allows for swing and drape ideal for this breezy accessory. The cast on is removed and the stitches are picked up and worked in a contrasting shade for the single-layered collar with a simple crochet chain and button fastener to secure it.
