Basket Weave Pillow
The simple over-and-under structure of basket weave patterns appeals to Valentina Devine. For this pillow she’s created an oversized “woven” fabric with crocheted strips worked together lengthwise in single and half-double crochet. The covered “under” portion of each strip is worked as a solid block, and the segment of the strip that shows is worked with slits that create a lattice effect. This “woven” fabric would work equally well for a bag, rug, afghan, or even a kimono jacket.
Twelve individual strips create this pillow top. Each strip has three solid blocks and three open strip blocks made up of four separate strips. These blocks alternate on each strip and are assembled in a woven fashion with an open block woven over a solid block.
Pattern requires 2 skeins each of 6 colors
Additional supplies: Straight pins; tapestry needles; 13” (33 cm) square pillow form
