To make this cowl you will need:
4.00mm needles on either a 60 or 80cm cable
Embroidery scissors
Tapestry needle
2x contrasting skeins of DK (8ply) weight yarns.

Important notes:
All three of the charts are designed as a 22-stitch repeat, and each size is based on the repeats. There are 4 sizes. The cowl is 30cm tall, so it will slouch a bit while you wear it.

The best type of yarn for colourwork is non-superwash yarn. This yarn hasn’t been treated to be machine washable, so it’s often a bit more delicate to handle. It’s perfect for colour work, because the fibres catch on each other and “fill” any small gaps that you might not initially notices.

This pattern was designed using 1 skein of Manos Del Uruguay Marla yarn – a DK weight yarn at 250m/100g, and 1 skein of Tarndie Homestead Garden Range in DK – which is 192m/100g. The Tarndie yarn was a loftier, slightly bulkier DK yarn than the Manos, but it worked out for me. If you’re unsure whether your yarns will work okay together, do a little swatch! Use Charts A or C on the last page, and add a few rows above and below the chart (3-4 will be enough). This will give you an idea of how the yarns you have chosen behave together, and won’t take up too much yarn.

Finally—every yarn is different. I have given the meterage and weight of the yarns I used. Using similar yarns and the same needle size should give you good results. My cowl (made in size 2) post blocking measured at 20 stitches and 28 rows across. My wonderful testers used a variety of yarns, and their tensions ranged from 18-21 stitches across, and 26-31 rows with good results, so there is wiggle room for this pattern!
