As the name suggests, this is just a basic pony pattern. I don’t give detailed instructions on how to add the mane and tail; it is assumed you know how to do that. Therefore, this is probably aimed at intermediate crocheters. Knowledge of sc, hdc and back loop and front loop stitches is required.

I used a cotton blend yarn in DK (8 ply), but you can use whatever yarn you desire - just make sure you use a smaller hook than recommended for the yarn. The thickness of the yarn will dictate the size of the finished pony. The sample shown measures 20cm (8”) to his ears.
