Basic B Beanie: Easy Ribbed Knit Hat
🎁 Gift-giving guru? You need this!
🔥 ABOUT THE PATTERN: Knit a Beanie in an Hour?! Yes, Really!
Need a hat, like, now? I got you! The Basic B Beanie is the fastest, easiest beanie you’ll ever knit. Seriously, you can make one in about an hour. It’s perfect for when you need a quick gift (hello, last-minute market prep!) or want to stock up your market stall. And don’t worry, it’s beginner-friendly, with super simple instructions. Get ready to make a whole bunch of these because everyone’s going to want one!
🎅 Size & Approximate Measurements:
- Size: One size, fits a 20”-23” (51-58 cm) head
- Approximate Measurements:
- Approximately 9” (23 cm) tall
- 7” (18 cm) wide, with a 14” (36 cm) circumference
- Tip: This is a speedy project, but a quick measure of your gauge will save you from any surprises!
🧶 Suggested Yarn:
-
Approximately 110 g of a Super Bulky (#6) Wool needed. Super Bulky yarn can vary in weight and thickness, so I’ve got you covered!
-
For example: The Wool by WAK is heavier by 50 g, but has less yardage than the other two yarns. Therefore, I’ve divided this pattern into two super bulky “weights” - light and heavy.
The following were used for the samples: Light
- Malabrigo Rasta (100% Merino Wool), Super Bulky, 150 g (82 m / 90 yds) in Teal Feather or Whole Grain
- Knotted by Nish (100% SW Merino), Super Bulky, 150 g (90 m / 98 yds) in Glow Explosion
-
Heavy We Are Knitters, The Wool (100% Wool), Super Bulky, 200 g (80 m / 87 yds) in The Hand Painted Sprinkle
-
This is a perfect project for those single, gorgeous skeins of super bulky yarn you’ve been hoarding! Choose solid or semi-solid colors for best stitch definition.
🥢 Needles:
- US 13 (9.0 mm) or US 15 (10.0 mm) 16” (41 cm) circular needle, and DPNs or a longer circular to use the magic loop method, or size required to obtain gauge.
✂️ Notions:
- Tapestry needle (for weaving in those few ends!)
- Stitch marker (1, to mark your beginning of round)
- Pom-pom (optional - because sometimes a little fluff is exactly what a beanie needs!)
- Garment Tag (optional - perfect for a professional finish on those gifted or market-bound beanies!)
The samples used 6” (15 cm) faux fur pom-poms from Naptime Knitter Designs and 3” (7.6 cm) Garment Tags from Crochic Styles.
📏 Gauge:
- Light Super Bulky: 12.5 sts / 12 rounds = 4” / 10 cm in pattern (K1 P1 ribbing) using US 13 (9.0 mm) needles after steam blocking
- Heavy Super Bulky: 11.5 sts / 11 rounds = 4” / 10 cm in pattern (K1 P1 ribbing) using US 15 (10.0 mm) needles after steam blocking
📝 Techniques Required:
- Knit, purl, standard increases/decreases, knitting in the round. (Seriously, that’s it! You got this!)
