All Sum Wear patterns have a mathematical/educational purpose. This one teaches the colours of the rainbow. Two of the dresses can also be used for counting as each stripe has one more ridge of garter stitch than the stripe before.

The circular skirt, and shawl, are both completely flat circles. You could adapt the shawl instructions to make a skirt with concentric circles.
