Bamboo the Panda
Bamboo the Panda is a sweet little panda sized just right for a child to hold, worked completely seamless so there is nothing to sew up at the end.
Teaching knitters is part of the Byrd’s Nest story, so this pattern is written to walk you through the new skills, not just list them.
Bamboo’s body is knit in the round from the bottom up, with the limbs worked in as you go, using standard increases and decreases and picking up stitches. Full written instructions and a chart are included.
Skill level is confident beginner and up, or any knitter ready to try intarsia in the round for the first time. If you can knit in the round and follow a chart, Bamboo will walk you through the rest.
Yarn needed is one skein each of black and white in worsted weight.
This one is as much a lesson as it is a toy. By the time Bamboo is finished you will have learned to work intarsia in the round and the wrap and turn, two techniques that open up a whole world of colorwork toys once they click.
Designed by Julie Anderson of The Byrd’s Nest, drawing on a Master’s in early childhood special education and more than 17 years of designing toys made to be loved.
