Notes from the Designer:
A long and lacy wrap with simple, repeating patterns of solids and lace. My inspiration for this pattern was the ocean. I have always had a fascination with the sea, particularly the way the waves roll onto the beach, smoothing the sand. To replicate this phenomenon, I used an alternating pattern of solid sections for “the sand” and lace sections for “the waves.”
Along with my fascination with the sea, I have always loved to learn about different cultures and languages. When thinking about and researching names for this design, I looked for a unique word that would fully describe my fascination with the sea/ocean and came across “Bahari,” the Swahili word for “the sea.” I love the way the word just rolls off your tongue just like waves rolling in from the sea. It reminds me of summer breezes and romantic walks.
- The Original Version was made with two skeins of Yak Silk Lace in color Freshwater Pearl.
- The scarf/wrap is worked flat from the bottom up.
- Gauge is not crucial to this project, but may affect yarn usage amounts and finished size.
- Original Version ONLY: Beginning chain DOES NOT count as double crochet unless otherwise noted.
- The Updated Versions count the chain 3 at the beginning as a stitch.
