This shawl is a great study for beginner to intermediate crocheters. Post stitches create a lovely cable effect and the crab stitch adds unique character and drape to the border.
The shape of the shawl is very utilitarian. The extra length at the top allows for the shawl to be tied behind the back while worn, which keeps it in place and out of whatever the wearer is doing. Since by using crochet I was inherently taking liberties, I decided to add some subtle but fun detail using very basic stitches. As a result, this shawl can be made by any crocheter who is able to read a pattern. It makes for a great study to learn the most basic stitches and some more complicated beginner techniques.
You will need about 950 yards of sport weight yarn.
