Babsie Bird
by Lucinda Guy
Inspired by puffins and other seabirds that flit about the cliffs and meadows in the Shetland Islands, Lucinda Guy knitted Babsie, a whimsical three-dimensional bird that will be welcome in any home. The bird is constructed from a number of pieces that are knitted in rows, then sewn together and stuffed with pure sheep’s wool. Lucinda used traditional Fair Isle patterns on the wings, body, and tail and accentuated them with cheerful French knots. Knitted in pure Shetland wool yarn with a robust character that has remained unchanged for many decades, Babsie will become firmer, softer, and more durable with time.
