Baaarter Sweater
Baaarter Sweater was originally a bartered commission to my friend and herding dog trainer for the boarding and training of my Australian Shepherd pup, Beet Root. She requested a sheep pattern and ended up with a very (loved) and wooly sweater for keeping warm during chores.
The Livestock Conservancy Donation
The pattern samples are Tunis-inspired! Tunis sheep are known as one of the oldest sheep breeds of American developed sheep breeds and are currently on the watch conservation list. Tunis sheep grow a fine-to-medium type wool making for a dense and durable garment yarn. Tunis are marked by their red faces, legs and feet. Want to learn more about Tunis sheep? Head over to The Livestock Conservancy to read and discover more about Tunis sheep and other heritage sheep breeds currently on the conservation list.
SWEATER NOTES
Baaarter Sweater is a top-down, circular yoke sweater starting with 1x1 neckline ribbing. The yoke increases are incorporated throughout the colorwork yoke chart. Order of construction is listed with casting on neck stitches, neck ribbing, set-up increases, yoke chart, short rows, separating sleeves and body, then knitting a straight body and tapered sleeves.
There are two yoke charts included - a color chart and a black & white symbol chart. Pattern also includes a tips and techniques section.
This sweater is intended to have 3 -4 in / 7.6 - 10 cm of positive ease in the body and 2 -4 in / 5 - 10 cm of positive ease in the upper arm. There is a written schematic chart along with formulaic instructions to determine body and sleeve lengths according to measurements of the body the sweater is intended to be worn on.
Measurements are based on the standards and guidelines of the Craft Yarn Council. See schematics table in photos
