Autumn Light Cardigan
KAL
Autumn Light was inspired by my visit to Rhinebeck two years ago, where I was deeply moved by the warmth of the community and by the beautiful, tangible connection between the animals, the wool, and all of us who knit.
This sweater is my tribute to that experience. From the beginning, I felt it was a design that should be knitted in community—and what could be more meaningful than sharing it with a global community of knitters? Autumn Light is also an opportunity to celebrate the friendship between neighbours in Canada and the United States and to come together during one of the most beautiful times of the year.
Our fall knit-along begins on August 26. Throughout the KAL, I’ll share a new video every week to guide you through the technical parts of the sweater and compare notes as our projects grow.
There is no strict deadline, so everyone can knit at their own pace. I hope you’ll share your progress, questions, and little moments along the way, so we can encourage one another and experience the joy of knitting Autumn Light together.
Description
This cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top-down. Back shoulders are cast on separately and short rows are worked to shape shoulders. Shoulders are then joined together and back is worked to the depth of front neckline. Fronts are picked up from back shoulders and neckline is shaped. The fronts and back are joined with steek and worked in the round. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the armholes and knitted from the top-down in the round.
