I was inspired by the Northern Lights to create a scarf that brings color into focus on a backdrop of a simple seed texture. The Aurora Scarf is a beginner level project that’s got enough color changing action to entrance even expert level knitters. Let your inner artist have a ball picking five colors of fingering weight yarn. You’ll use multiple strands as you knit to create a stunning ombré effect. Gorgeous for men or women, this accessory brings a modern pop of color to the wearer’s wardrobe.

Finished measurements: 7 x 65

Yarn: 5 colors of fingering weight (CYCA #1) yarn in the following yardage amounts:
Colors A and E: 175 yards each
Colors B, C, and D: 230 yards each.
These yardage amounts allow for the yarn to be held triple strand.

Samples made with Knit Picks Palette (100% Peruvian highland wool; 231 yds / 50 g), 1 ball each of 5 colors.

Gauge: 15.5 stitches and 24 rows = 4 in seed stitch holding three strands of yarn together.

Needles: US 10.5 (6.5 mm) needle or size needed for gauge. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge.
