Made with Aran-weight yarn, it is a fun and quick project!
The Aurora Cardigan features a classic design with simple, clean lines. It is made in 6 parts: the back panel, two front panels, two sleeves sewn together with a tapestry needle, and a button band is attached as you go.
The main stitch pattern – half-brioche crochet is named after the half-brioche knitted stitch pattern, as it bears a resemblance to it.
Each part of the Aurora Cardigan is worked vertically, flat in one piece, using short rows, increases, and decreases to form the pattern-cut and fit improvers: V-neck line, shoulder slopes, bust darts, armholes, and sleeve shapes.
Crochet skill level: Intermediate.
You need to know how to work the foundation chain, slip stitch, yarn over slip stitch, extended half double crochet, to be ready for some stitch modifications that create the design.
To know how to work with written instructions and to follow them carefully, a lot of stitch counting is required.
Inside:
• The pattern on 24 pages contains written instructions, visuals, links and QR codes to video tutorials with English vocals and subtitles.
The pattern is adapted for my left-handed readers; in particular, it includes advice on steps that differ.
Size: XS (S, M, L, XL, XXL).
Main Steps:
• Prepare a gauge swatch. Take your body measurements. Find your size. Deside if you need to alter the length.
• Work back, both front panels, and sleeves, block them to size.
• Assemble the cardigan with the tapestry needles.
• Work button band (steam block it if needed), attach buttons.
Materials:
1. Yarn: Aran to chunky yarn weight, 140-250 m per 100g, approximately 500g - 900 g or 1100 (1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600) m, depending on the size. Choose a rather lofty yarn to reduce the finished weight. Blown yarn will be a better choice. Mohair held together is a very good idea! Avoid yarns with Viscose, silk, and cotton in the composition, as these fibers make it thin and heavy and will dramatically increase the consumption and weight. Solid colors, hand-dyed yarns, or tweeds. Variegated with soft color transitions. A very contrasting color-changing yarn will add a stripy effect.
- A main crochet hook 5.5-6.5 mm, or the size that provides the requested swatch gauge. Hooks 0.5 mm and 1 mm smaller than the main one to use where indicated. Important to choose hooks from the same brand and type. Clover Amour is my personal choice.
- 15 or more locking stitch markers.
- A tapestry needle for weaving in. A sharp needle makes weaving more reliable by passing the yarn end through the fibers, reducing the risk of the yarn coming loose during wear.
- 2 buttons (or as many as you decide according to your length and preferences).

Repeating panels are connected as you go. The Magnolia stitch pattern is created using short rows that are smoothly integrated into the ribbing. Sewn with one stitch with a tapestry needle.
