Auri
Head tipped to one side, she squinted out the window and traced the sun-ridged horizon with her index finger. Summer had been sweet and pleasant, but something about the end of it felt sharpened- like the intake of breath after surprising news. It was winding down now. The gentle consistency of warm sunlight and gentle breezes was replaced with abrupt temperature changes, or passing dark purple clouds that lingered overhead while never making good on the rain they threatened. Late summer’s settling was a whispered press for change: a trip, perhaps. Planning could be left behind with the waning summer sunlight. The only thing on the itinerary was movement- she would go where the wind, the road, the journey took her.
